Arqueometria da cerâmica islâmica de Mértola: estudo da pasta e das decorações vidradas

Abstract

Neste artigo, são apresentados os resultados do estudo arqueométrico desenvolvido sobre um conjunto de amostras de cerâmicas islâmicas recuperadas em Mértola. Os resultados evidenciaram que a maioria da cerâmica decorada a verde e manganês, corda seca parcial e melado e manganês era produzida localmente. A matéria-prima era extraída nas jazidas associadas à unidade geológica do “Flysch do Baixo Alentejo”. Além disso, foram adicionados fragmentos de calcário, ossos/pó de ossos e vidro/frita na massa cerâmica, muito provavelmente para facilitar a aplicação da decoração vidrada. Em outras amostras de cerâmica vidrada, importados do Sul da Península Ibérica e do Norte da Africa, foram usadas matérias-primas margosas com adição de fragmentos vidro/frita e/o ossos/ pó de ossos.
