Abstract

Importa refletir sobre a necessidade de fornecer estratégias de equilíbrio entre as dimensões profissional e pessoal; The mediating role of Self-expansion in the relationship between relationship satisfaction and the professional development of psychotherapists Abstract:_ This investigation, operationalized in a quantitative, correlational and transversal way, aimed to study the mediating effect of Self-expansion (SE) in the association between relationship satisfaction (RS) and professional development (PD), in a sample of psychodynamic psychotherapists. The literature shows a relationship between the variables, and high levels of SE are expected to mediate this association. IMS–SV, SEPS and DPCCQ were used, as well as a sociodemographic form. The non-probabilistic sample consisted of 72 women and 33 men, trainees/graduates of psychodynamic psychotherapy. Data were analyzed using parametric and non-parametric statistical techniques supported by specific software. Path analysis by structural equation modeling was used to test the mediation model. SE did not appear as a mediating variable. The results suggest that there is no relationship between RS and PD. It is important to reflect on the need to provide strategies to balance the professional and personal dimensions.
