Imagens do paraíso no renascimento

Abstract

No Renascimento, a criação artística deriva de uma cultura visual focada no homem e no seu quotidiano. O corpo é valorizado a partir da utilização de modelos vivos, retratado com naturalismo, os rostos e gestos ganham maior expressividade e o movimento torna-se mais solto e espontâneo. As figuras sagradas adquirem uma escala natural, liberta de hierarquias e de convenções, e inserem-se em ambientes anacrónicos e cenários do quotidiano doméstico, que conferem um teor realista e humanizado à representação das cenas religiosas. É nestas circunstâncias que se altera a iconografia do Paraíso: o Paraíso celeste, evocado através do Juízo Final, abandona progressivamente a estrutura centrada na figura de Cristo-juiz, sentado no trono, em majestade, para se tornar numa composição mais fluida e dinâmica em torno de Cristo ressuscitado, de pé e a apresentar as marcas da Paixão; o empíreo fixa-se como uma glória iluminada aberta num círculo de nuvens povoado de anjos e santos, em escorços cada vez mais pronunciados, sublinhando o movimento ascensional; o Paraíso terrestre, sem prejuízo da simbologia atribuída a cada elemento, é um jardim natural e luxuriante.
