La tensión entre la gracia divina, determinismo y libre albedrío: una lectura del jansenismo a la luz de Pascal y San Agustín

Abstract

Este trabajo trata de poner el foco en un momento y un lugar muy concreto de la historia de la filosofía: el siglo XVI francés. Durante los años que comprenden esta centena y las primeras décadas de la siguiente, una serie de autores, Cornelio Jansen, Arnauld o Pierre Nicole, al amparo de una abadía francesa llamada Port Royal, desarrollan un pensamiento a la luz de las lecturas de San Agustín que conducirá a una encrucijada que, resaltando unos aspectos de la condición humana sobre otros, llevará a una postura herética conocida como jansenismo, una visión del hombre y su destino similar a la protestante pero en clave católica. Estos autores presentan similitudes y diferencias, aunque lo que comparten en su pensamiento es una antropología que afirma que a la hora de hacer el bien, el hombre está esencialmente corrupto y que por tanto la ayuda divina sería lo único suficiente y necesario, no pudiendo éste por sus propias capacidades obrar la virtud. Precisamente así, como una ayuda divina, es como es entendida la gracia tanto por Agustín como por Pascal, los dos autores principales de este trabajo.
