New technologies, both in computer science and biomedicine, are having a strong impact on the question of rights. In this text I offer some reflections on an old right—the right to privacy, showing how the advent of computer technology has transformed it—as well as on a new right, connected to developments in medical research and its clinical applications: this is the right to self-determination in health.
