O teatro tem uma longa história de conexão com a comunidade LGBTI+, mesmo que, durante séculos, tenha representado as pessoas queer apenas através de estereótipos que intensificavam o estigma para com elas. As mulheres lésbicas parecem ter sido das mais afetadas, uma vez que foram alvo de um processo de invisibilização e de um apagamento histórico significativo das suas vivências. A presente dissertação tem como principal objetivo analisar as formas como o teatro pode ser uma ferramenta de representatividade desta minoria, através do estudo de caso da peça Dykes on Ice, da autoria de Sónia Baptista, apresentada em Lisboa em 2024. Para tal, começou por se explorar as identidades e a comunidade LGBTI+, o modo como a arte representa minorias, bem como a história do teatro queer, a relação com o teatro lésbico e a sua contextualização na realidade portuguesa. A metodologia, de cariz qualitativo, passou pela realização de seis entrevistas semidiretivas à autora, criadora e encenadora da peça e a elementos da equipa de produção do caso em análise. Pretendeu-se mapear os passos necessários para a criação de um espetáculo deste género, através das perspetivas destes membros, sobretudo tendo em conta o panorama atual nacional e internacional. Em paralelo, também se analisaram as suas expectativas, no que toca à reação do público, face à realidade constatada. Complementarmente, realizou-se ainda uma análise do guião da obra teatral. Concluiu-se que a peça Dykes on Ice serve como exemplo de que o teatro pode ser uma ferramenta para a representação de minorias, através das escolhas de atores e elementos da produção com os seus variados backgrounds, assim como a criação e compilação dos textos, componentes figurativas ou materiais escolhidos. A perceção da equipa de produção sobre a reação do público é que esta foi, na sua maioria, bastante positiva, mesmo que não existissem expectativas bem definidas à partida. Espera-se que os dados desta investigação possam contribuir para futuras análises de peças sáfico-lésbicas, já que se trata de uma área em desenvolvimento e ainda pouco explorada.

Theatre has a long history of connection with the LGBTI+ community, even though, for centuries, it has represented queer people only through stereotypes that intensified the stigma against them. Lesbian women seem to have been among the most affected, as they were the target of a process of invisibilisation and a significant historical erasure of their experiences. The main objective of this dissertation is to analyse the ways in which theatre can be a tool for representing this minority, through a case study of the play ‘Dykes on Ice’, by Sónia Baptista, presented in Lisbon in 2024. To this end, we explored the definition of LGBTI+ community identities, the way art represents minorities, as well as the history of queer theatre, its relationship with lesbian theatre, and its contextualisation in the Portuguese reality. The qualitative methodology involved conducting six semi-structured interviews with the author, creator and director of the play and the members of the production team involved in the case study. The aim was to map out the steps necessary to create a theatre production of this kind, through the perspectives of these members, especially taking into account the current national and international landscape. At the same time, their expectations regarding the audience's reaction to the reality observed were also analysed. In addition, an analysis of the play's script was carried out. It was concluded that the play ‘Dykes on Ice’ serves as an example that theatre can be a tool for the representation of minorities, through the choice of actors and of the production team members with their varied backgrounds, as well as the creation and compilation of texts, figurative components or chosen materials. The production team's perception of the audience's reaction is that it was, for the most part, quite positive, even though there were no clear expectations at the outset. It is hoped that the data from this research will contribute to future analyses of sapphic-lesbian plays, as this is a developing and still largely unexplored area.
