Datación de muestras de origen biológico mediante radiocarbono

Abstract

En el presente proyecto se realizará una introducción a la datación mediante radiocarbono, técnica que permite determinar la edad de muestras, fósiles y objetos que contengan material orgánico. El método se basa en la determinación de la concentración de carbono-14 en la muestra estudiada y la comparación con la concentración existente en el momento de la muerte del ser vivo. Esta técnica fue desarrollada por Willard Libby en 1949 y actualmente es una herramienta básica para arqueólogos y paleontólogos. En este trabajo se propone estudiar el funcionamiento de esta técnica de datación y analizar sus inconvenientes, limitaciones y precisión. También se analizará la importancia de esta técnica para determinar la edad de muestras de origen biológico y se mencionarán sus perspectivas futuras. El método empleado para realizar este estudio será una búsqueda bibliográfica en bases de datos disponibles en internet, así como en los recursos bibliográficos de los que dispone la Universidad de Alicante.
