Kants viljesorienterte etikk

Abstract

Som tittelen tilsier, dreier denne avhandlingen seg om viljesbegrepet i Kants etikk, samtidig som den representerer en kritikk av den gjengse bestemmelsen av Kants etikk som handlingsorientert. Etter min mening er det mer adekvat å karakterisere Kants etikk som viljesorientert, da den i første rekke dreier seg om bestemmelsesgrunnene for handlingen, ikke selve handlingen. Kants etikk er riktignok aktørorientert, slik Marcia Baron fastslår, men samtidig vil jeg framheve at den er aktørorientert på en noe annen måte enn Aristoteles´ etiske teori, ettersom den orienterer seg mot den menneskelige viljen. Avhandlingen er derfor også gjennomgående en diskusjon av viljesbegrepet i Kants etikk. I særdeleshet står distinksjonen mellom Wille og Willkür sentralt i drøftelsen. Denne distinksjonen representerer etter min mening et skille mellom to nivåer eller instanser i viljen, henholdsvis viljens lovgivende og viljens utøvende instans. Wille gir viljen loven, som for en menneskelig vilje har karakter av et imperativ, mens Willkür tar opp i seg maksimer og velger å handle på bakgrunn av disse. Følgelig er Det Kategoriske Imperativs pliktfordring å forstå som en fordring som går fra ett nivå i viljen, Wille, til ett annet nivå, Willkür. Viljesbegrepet står dermed i selve hjertet av den kantianske etikken. En rød tråd gjennom hele avhandlingen er dessuten en interpretasjon av den kantianske etikkens forhold til den aristoteliske. Hovedtesen i denne sammenheng er at disse to etiske retningene er svært like, men at Kant skiller seg fra Aristoteles ved at han opererer med et moderne viljesbegrep i sin etiske teori.
