Abstract

Currently, depression plays a leading role among all the mental health disorders that individuals in our society suffer from. Although, traditionally, depression has been associated with an increase in negative affect, recent research has shown the central role that the absence of positive emotions plays in explaining the disorder. So, the following study has been interested in addressing depressive symptomatology, relating it to the fear of positive emotions and the use of positive emotion dampening as an emotional regulation strategy. For this, a mediational analysis has been carried out, positioning depressive symptoms as a dependent variable, fear of positive emotions as a mediating variable and the use of dampening as an independent variable, this analysis being the main objective of this research. The results show that depressive symptoms are related to the use of dampening strategies in positive emotions. In turn, the mediational analyzes indicate that this relationship is partially mediated by the fear of positive emotions.
