Abstract

The development and acceptance of a bisexual identity is a difficult process. The evidence supports that assuming a bisexual identity implies greater difficulties than accepting a homosexual identity due, among other things, to the invisibility that exists at all levels of bisexuality, which derives from biphobic prejudices, which in turn have their roots in the monosexism wich is embedded in the traditional binary model. This invisibility supposes a lack of positive references that feeds back invisibility and, therefore, biphobia. This biphobia is different from homophobia because it implies a series of myths and prejudices of its own. Affirmative Psychology was born to support all those within the LGBTI community but in some areas it has developed more than in others, one of the most neglected being bisexual affirmative psychology as there is a glaring lack of studies regarding specific bisexual experiences that are not shared by homosexuals. But the reality of bisexual people is unique and deserves to be taken into consideration, since biphobia is not the same as homophobia and generates very high levels of suffering, in all areas. Therefore, in this paper we develop a proposal for intervention from an affirmative reference framework, which has as its main objective to improve the self-perceived quality of life in bisexual people through the work of different indicators that have proven to be crucial in their well-being.
