Análisis de volatilidad en productos financieros

Abstract

La predicción de volatilidad es fundamental en finanzas. Se utiliza en la valoración de productos derivados, selección óptima de carteras, gestión de riesgo, estrategias de inversión… Por lo que es muy importante calcular con precisión la volatilidad para estas aplicaciones. Sin embargo, la volatilidad no es observable y la evaluación de los modelos no es sencilla. En este Proyecto Fin de Carrera se realizará un estudio de la volatilidad de los futuros del IBEX 35 y el EURO STOXX 50, la cotización de BBVA y de un conjunto de valores del NASDAQ y el NYSE. Primero, se compararán algunos de los modelos más representativos de la familia GARCH con el objetivo de identificar los modelos con buena capacidad predictiva, y observar su comportamiento cuando se modifica: la longitud de la ventana de estimación, la distribución de las innovaciones y la frecuencia de reestimación de los parámetros. Después, se analizarán los modelos LMS-GARCH y RLS-GARCH que están basados en algoritmos adaptativos. Estos modelos calculan los parámetros de forma online, evitando de este modo tener que definir un conjunto de entrenamiento y estimar los parámetros por máxima verosimilitud. Además de estudiar el rendimiento de estos dos modelos, se observará su capacidad predictiva cuando se utilizan series intradía de diferentes frecuencias. Finalmente, se resumirán los resultados de los experimentos y las conclusiones obtenidas. Por otra parte, se presentarán algunas posibles extensiones, así como nuevas ideas para continuar este proyecto en un futuro.
