The main objective of this project is to design a power plant based on a Rankine cycle in order to reduce the wet cooling load and decrease water losses. This is vital for countries where exists a water crisis such as Middle East ones. Thus, we have chosen three possible alternatives of our power plant design and we will study all the different components integrated in them by resolving their thermodynamic equations with the help of a commercial software called MATLAB R2016a. We will see how the absorption heat pump system reduce water losses around 10.38% in the cooling tower, reaching the objective, although its efficiency is lower compared with the Rankine standard cycle. In conclusion, an economic analysis will be conducted for each system allowing us to reach a final decision about which is the best option among them.
