The present work investigates the soundalternations in Turkish onomatopoeic reduplications andoffers an analysis based on apophony, which is the labelfor context-free sound alternations. It questions whetherTurkish onomatopoeic reduplication displays anyregularity with respect to the vocalic changes observed inthe forms. The study claims that context-free soundalternations in onomatopoeic reduplications are someform of apophony and follows the Apophonic path offeredby Guerssel and Lowenstamm (1996). Turkishimplements A→U alternation for both [a]-[u] and [e]-[ü]changes observed in onomatopoeic reduplications.
