Forty years after the military coup and after over 20 years of post-dictatorship in Chile, the ways in which this recent past is remembered by different generations are a point of concern in the academic and political fields. What is remembered and how are questions raised by the study. With a purposive sample that highlighted the generational position of 25 participants, a qualitative study was conducted using life stories. The participants, from different regions of Chile, also differed in terms of gender, ideological position, political repression experience, and socioeconomic status. Through the articulation of 2 analytical logics (singular and cross-sectional), the results reveal certain generational particularities in the contents of their stories, especially with regard to their characteristic plots and articulating storylines. Based on these findings, different discursive generations can be identified, which are marked by the socio-political contexts which they have experienced biographically, and for which having experienced the events directly is not the only reference point to construct a story. Ideological position and proximity to political repression experience are also salient elements that determine certain generational contents.
