Research on area land use from 1823 to 1919 suggests that the vegetation at the site consisted of farm type open field species such as grasses and field crops, with shrubs and trees in the wetter areas along Poplar Brook. From 1919-1970 the site or certain portions of the site had been developed for various communications research and development programs beginning in 1919 when Western Electric Company acquired the parcel. The inventory shows the history of the regrowth of vegetation.
