Comprehensive county planning is the process by which land development policies and projected land needs are organized to create a pattern for future growth. This is especially important on the county level since each day the fact that the communities in Ocean County are no longer isolated is becoming more obvious. Our changing mode of living ensures this factor. The purpose of the pion is to provide a basic framework which the Ocean County Planning Board can follow in guiding the direction and distribution of future growth. Equally important is that the communities in Ocean County are also provided with a basic framework which will be useful in making decisions by the local planning boards. The plans are general, without regard to specific tracts of land for a particular use. Local community planning responsibilities such as local streets, neighborhood shopping, public school sites, community parks and playgrounds are not shown since they can be planned better at the local community levels, but the text provides guidance for the standards and location of these facilities. This plan represents the results of over two years of work undertaken by the Ocean County Planning Board. The preparation of this docume;nt was financed in part through an Urban Planning Grant from the Housing and Home Finance Agency, under the provision of Section 701 of the Housing Act of 1954, as amended. The remainder has been financed by Ocean County funds and by an appropriation of the State of New Jersey as part of the expanded State and Regional Planning Program.
