Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) provision is associated with positive social and economic outcomes, both in the short and long term. These outcomes depend on policy decisions with regards to the number of hours that are offered, the age at which the entitlement starts, the type of ECEC care, and the costs for parents from various backgrounds. We discuss existing differences between EU countries in ECEC implementation and outcomes.
