Aseptella (Brachiopoda) en el paleozoico tardio de Argentina

Abstract

Se describen nuevos ejemplares correspondientes a la especie Aseptella aff. patriciae Simanauskas de la Precordillera argentina (cuenca Calingasta-Uspallata). Dicha especie integra una asociación faunfstica ubicada en la parte superior de la Formación El Paso, unidad que presenta diamictitas asociadas al evento glacial carbonífero. Este hallazgo amplía la distribución geografica del genero Aseptella, el cual hasta el presente sólo se había registrado en el Carbonífero de la Cordillera Cantabrica (Espana) y en el Perrnico Temprano de la Patagonia Argentina (cuenca Tepuel-Genoa). Las formas descritas en la Argentina se caracterizan por su gran tamaño, caracter que las diferencia basicamente de las especies españolas. La presencia de Aseptella en la Argentina es explicada como el resultado de la migración del genero sobre el margen noroccidental del Gondwana, desde la Península Ibérica a través del mar de Tetis, hasta el dominio gondwánico. Allí habría evolucionado a especies adaptadas a las nuevas condiciones climaticas existentes en esas paleolatitudes.
