Bioethics, conceived as a bridge between classical ethics and the life sciences, is today an increasingly broad field of study and practice. It comprises a set of research, discourses, and practices, generally multidisciplinary and pluralistic, that aim to clarify and, if possible, resolve ethical questions raised by biomedical and biotechnological research and development in the development, formulation, and especially the recommendation of dietary supplements and nutraceuticals. Principles are fundamental for establishing the bioethical principles that everyone must follow before, during, and after recommending a dietary supplement, and especially a nutraceutical. Principles such as autonomy, the protective principle, and beneficence are essential. These principles are not always followed by the laboratories that produce these formulations, which do not respect quality standards, nor by the companies and entrepreneurs who market them, nor by the distributors and vendors who distribute them. There is a commercialization of these principles in order to sell, and the end consumer often consumes them without being properly informed. Each and every one of these parties has their sphere of bioethical responsibility, which has implications for the appropriate, bioethical, and safe recommendation of food supplements and nutraceuticals. Therefore, in this article, these bioethical scopes have been defined according to each level of responsibility, and we have defined these “Bioethical Principles of Nutraceutical Recommendation.”
