Abstract

Dans la poésie d'Aloysius Bertrand, un certain ton « narquois » se trouve à l'articulation du montré – les postures, les valeurs esthétiques que le poète exhibe pour prestement s'en défaire – et du caché, ce génie aussi insaisissable qu'irrécusable qui, d'un même élan, voue l'artiste à la poésie et au guignon. Si la matière comique du recueil s'inscrit et se légitime grâce à la caution réaliste de Callot, l'esprit narquois, lui, s'en prend à deux cibles prestigieuses : la théorie littéraire (celle de l'idéalisme romantique) et l'alchimie (qui nie le réel en prétendant le transfigurer). Ces deux savoirs d'initiés font grand usage du discours d'autorité et en particulier de l'antithèse dont le rythme binaire prétend épuiser la vie, en la réduisant à une formule séduisante. S'il est un au-delà de la narquoiserie, peut-être faut-il aller le chercher du côté de l'expression d'une subjectivité diffractée, d'une mélancolie en partie masquée, dont l'expression s'autorise de l'exemple de La Fontaine.
