
In July–August of every year during 2017–2019, renewed excavations were undertaken at Tel Lakhish (Tel Lachish) by an Austrian-Israeli expedition, first on behalf of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2017–2018) and subsequently under the auspices of the Institute for Oriental and European Archaeology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Permit Nos. G-45/2017, G-22/2018, G-67/2019; map ref. 185546–714/608147–306). The ongoing excavations are part of a project called ‘Tracing Transformations’, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF START Grant No. Y-932). They are directed by K. Streit and F. Höflmayer, with the assistance of L. Webster (sampling for radiocarbon dating; Area S supervisor), A.-K. Jeske (Area P supervisor), J. Dye (database management, photography), M.
