Abstract

La Conferencia de Puebla quiso realizar la relectura inculturada y la recepción creativa de la Exhortación «Evangelii nuntiandi», paralelamente a lo que Medellín hiciera con el Vaticano II. El tema de Puebla y el título de su Documento conclusivo no deja lugar a dudas: «La evangelización en el presente y el futuro de América Latina». Puebla significa, entonces, una nueva toma de conciencia de la Iglesia latinoamericana, que reafirma el nexo claro entre evangelización y promoción humana, explicita el sentido auténtico de la liberación integral y acepta la necesidad y urgencia de opciones pastorales concretas. El mensaje teológico-pastoral de Puebla puede resumirse así: una evangelización liberadora del pecado personal (conversión) y social (transformación de estructuras injustas) que conduce hacia la comunión y participación, primero dentro de la Iglesia (pueblo de Dios y cuerpo de Cristo) y luego, por la presencia de los cristianos en la sociedad pluralista, también en el mundo o comunidad secular, dentro de la cual la Iglesia es signo y fermento de esa comunión y participación, que debe concretarse —para no reducirse en la acción pastoral a un simple deseo romántico o moralizante— en opciones pastorales que expresen la predilección por el pueblo pobre y oprimido.
