Abstract

Objetivo: Evaluar el efecto antifúngico del extracto hidroalcohólico de Xanthium spinosum en concentraciones de 25%, 50% y 75% contra Candida albicans mediante estudio in vitro. Método: Investigación experimental desarrollada en laboratorio especializado utilizando la cepa fúngica Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Se prepararon discos de papel filtro impregnados con extracto hidroalcohólico de Xanthium spinosum en tres concentraciones. Se empleó nistatina como control positivo y agua como control negativo. La incubación se realizó a 37°C durante 48 horas, posteriormente se midieron los halos de inhibición según escala de Duraffourd. Resultados: Las concentraciones evaluadas de 25%, 50% y 75% del extracto hidroalcohólico de Xanthium spinosum no mostraron formación de halos de inhibición contra Candida albicans, evidenciando ausencia de actividad antifúngica. Conclusiones: El extracto hidroalcohólico de Xanthium spinosum no presenta efecto antifúngico contra la cepa de Candida albicans ATCC 10231 en las concentraciones estudiadas.
