Mozambique Endemic and Near-Endemic Red Listed Plant Species

Abstract

In February 2018 the Southern African Plant Specialist Group (SASPG) under the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) met in Maputo to assess conservation status of about 100 plant species. The group focused on the endemic and near-endemic plants of Mozambique. The SAPSG brings together institutions including the two National herbaria in Mozambique (LMA and LMU), the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (K) as well as independent specialists. The assessments are now being independently reviewed and thereafter they will be published on the IUCN web page. These assessments will inform conservation planning, development planning as well as to inform consultants conducting environmental impact assessments.
