A cultural resources assessment was conducted for the Fort Dix Sanitary Landfill Site, Fort Dix Military Reservation, Pemberton Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. The assessment was authorized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and conducted by Law Environmental) Inc. Mr. Robert S. Webb served as the Principal Investigator. The study is contained within a 126-acre tract of land including a 76-acre landfill area. In view of the intensive survey findings, no further work is recommended within the Phase I construction area. However, the literature review and initial reconnaissance findings indicate that there is the potential for cultural resources to occur within the Phase II construction area south of the existing landfill. For this reason, a Stage IB cultural resources survey and a Stage II testing program (if required) is recommended for the Phase H construction areas. Because of potential health hazards and severe physical disturbance, no cultural resources work is recommended for the existing 76 acre landfill. This is an incomplete report.
