Abstract

The variety of materials, processes and artistic conceptions that are carried out within contemporary art make its proper conservation and restoration increasingly complex. In urban and public art there are several agents that must be considered when establishing its preservation, including the artists and the community in which the works are inserted. These have changed the idea of History, with a capital letter, to talk about stories (Muñoz, 2003). These stories are linked to the environment in which they are told, because, fundamentally, they are made for it. This contribution aims to analyze the cataloguing of these works as movable or immovable property, and what it means for them to fall into one category or the other. Considering them as elements that can be moved implies the undermining of their integrity and the modification of their context. This produces the resignification of the work, which becomes something foreign in another location. At the same time, the possible motivations and processes of relocation that take place in this type of manifestations are mentioned, highlighting the need to carry out in-depth studies that avoid these resignifications due to contextual modifications. La variedad de materiales, procesos y concepciones artísticas que se llevan a cabo dentro del arte contemporáneo hacen que sea cada más compleja su adecuada conservación y restauración. En el arte urbano y público existen varios agentes que deben ser considerados a la hora de establecer su preservación, incluyendo a los artistas y la comunidad en la que se insertan las obras. Estas han cambiado la idea de Historia, con mayúscula, para hablarnos de historias (Muñoz, 2003). Esas historias se vinculan con el entorno al que se cuentan, porque, fundamentalmente, están elaboradas para él. Esta aportación pretende analizar la catalogación de estas obras como bienes muebles o inmuebles, y lo que supone que se enmarquen en una u otra categoría. Considerarlas como elementos exentos que se pueden trasladar supone el menoscabo de su integridad y la modificación de su contexto el establecimiento de una resignificación de la obra que deja de ser lo que era para convertirse en un elemento ajeno en otra ubicación. A su vez, se mencionan las posibles motivaciones y procesos de traslado que se llevan a cabo en este tipo de manifestaciones, remarcando la necesidad de realizar estudios en profundidad que eviten estas resignificaciones por modificaciones contextuales.
