Sensory Processing Sensitivity: 'Highly Sensitive Children' Remain Invisible

Abstract

Sensory processing sensitivity is not considered a disorder; although it is likely to be confused or even lead to neuropsychiatric pathologies and, consequently, medicalized. It is estimated to affect one quarter of the population and has been investigated in adults and children for three decades. Early identification in childhood, education and health is a priority. Primary Care pediatricians are a key part of this institutional machinery that must be put in place to begin to provide comprehensive protection for this other diversity.
