A new species of the family Triglidae, Lepidotrigla russelli sp. nov., from the waters off the Northern Territory and Queensland (Australia) is presented. The new taxon is compared with its similar relatives in the genus Lepidotrigla Gunther, 1860: L. faurei Gilchrist and Thompson, 1914, and L. cadmani Regan, 1915. Brief comments on the genus Lepidorrigla are included.
