Comparación, negociación y creación de significados en el bilinguismo de Tato Laviera

Abstract

Tato Laviera (1950-2013) fue un destacado poeta en la comunidad de inmigrantes denominados “neuyoricans”: puertorriqueños en Nueva York. En sus versos genera un spanglish muy personal, donde compara, negocia y elige los significados de cada lengua que le interesan; otras veces, suma aspectos culturales de ambos mundos. Incluso llega a producir significantes y significados que funden ambas culturas. Así el spanglish de Laviera se convierte en un material eficaz para la enseñanza de los dos idiomas: por un lado, ambas culturas se mantienen en constante comparación, con problemas sociales del siglo XX que siguen vigentes; por otro lado, es bien sabido en la didáctica de segundas lenguas, que los ritmos musicales que acompañan a estos poemas, además de resultar de máxima actualidad, constituyen una sinergia que favorece el aprendizaje.
