Abstract

This paper examines the influences that help to determine merchant vessel bridge arrangement; in particular, it focuses on navigating bridge visibility. The efforts to develop bridge visibility guidelines both nationally (U.S. Coast Guard/Maritime Administration) and internationally (International Maritime Organization) are discussed. The paper concludes with a practical approach on integrating bridge visibility criteria into a ves-sel's conceptual design.
