El 'Culto-fiesta' entre los Wichi del Chaco argentino

Abstract

El objetivo del presente artículo es analizar una modalidad especial de culto cristiano, festivo y danzado, entre los wichís de la zona sur del Bermejo (familia lingüística Mataco-Maká), relacionada con el movimiento de la Iglesia Evangélica Unida. La ejecución de este culto expone los aspectos que vinculan el fenómeno de la fiesta con el pasado y el presente de una sociedad en transición, y trata de definir su identidad. En el culto-fiesta los wichís parecen reunir las funciones y los significados de dos antiguas instituciones rituales (el chamanismo y la fiesta) reconfigurándolas también con la potencia del ritual cristiano. El culto-fiesta se convierte así en una ocasión de reafirmación de la tradición o de apertura, cambio y reproducción social, donde se manifiestan todas las polaridades y las contradicciones de la cultura y donde se ritualiza la relación con la alteridad y con lo nuevo.
