
The controversy, which appears to be alive up to this day, concerns the question whether the Warsaw Uprising should have been initiated precisely at that time—the summer of 1944—and the manner in which it was waged. Not all the members of the Home Army Headquarters were of the opinion that the Uprising should have never been started at that particular moment. The pros and cons expressed at a crucial meeting held on 27 July were equally divided. The 1944 Uprising was “extremely important but also an utterly tragic event”.
