Abstract

The present research was carried out to identify if the ninth-grade students of La Estrellita IED School in Bogotá had critical reading strategies, and if so, to recognize which of them they use in their reading processes. For this, the analysis of the historical result of the Saber 11° test of the institution (2018, 2019 and 2020) was considered, in which low results were obtained and which denoted that there was not a good level of critical reading used by the students of that establishment. Based on the above and considering the theory proposed by Daniel Cassany (2006) (22 critical reading techniques) and Icfes (2016) (strategies proposed within the five dimensions of critical reading), a critical reading test, a metacognitive questionnaire, a field diary, and a video recording were used. Those allowed to identify, categorize, and describe the strategies that these students used to read critically.
