Abstract

L’article se centra en l’estudi de la «Modern Catalan Painting» (1931-1933), una mostra col·lectiva itinerant de pintura catalana moderna als Estats Units, amb creadors de renom com ara Pablo Picasso, que s’hi presentava com a pintor català, i liderada per figures de gran importància en el panorama artístic de l’època. La recerca planteja diferents connexions entre el món artístic oficial, els marxants, els artistes i els col·leccionistes i el context artístic, cultural i educatiu nord-americà. L’objectiu és valorar el fenomen de les exposicions itinerants nord-americanes, que, a través de la College Art Association, van permetre difondre la pintura catalana moderna en el context internacional. Es persegueix contribuir a millorar l’estudi de la transferència cultural mitjançant l’anàlisi de les conjuntures sociopolítica i cultural dels dos països, amb interessos comuns en la defensa de les arts nacionals que van fer possible, dins d’un context de crisi econòmica mundial, l’organització de les exposicions itinerants.
