What is the future of budworm research? In a word, bleak. Having said that, I must give my reasons for saying so. First I shall give a brief historical perspective. Then I shall outline the present situation, the control options, and the outlook for new options. Finally I shall state what I believe has to be done to ensure that the forest industry does not find itself without control options.
