Este trabajo estudia la influencia de Alfonso de Cartagena en la Valeriana, obra del cronista mosén Diego de Valera. Dicha influencia parte del discurso pronunciado por el obispo de Burgos en el Concilio de Basilea defendiendo los intereses castellanos frente a Inglaterra. Las ideas aquí expuestas (supremacía, antigüedad y goticismo de Castilla) serán la base sobre la que Valera configurará su crónica, adaptando los argumentos de Cartagena al nuevo contexto político que supone el reinado de los Reyes Católicos.
