Quijote y las imprentas americanas

Abstract

Este artículo trata la historia de las impresiones y ediciones del Quijote en Hispanoamérica, las cuales no comenzaron hasta 1833. No obstante, en el artículo se ofrecen datos de que en el mismo año de publicación del Quijote, 1605, ya viajaron a América del Sur varios ejemplares. Aun así, pronto la proliferación del género caballeresco y de mero entretenimiento se prohibió en las colonias de ultramar, de manera que se dificultó la expansión del clásico español. Algunas de las razones de que no se imprimieran más ejemplares a partir de que se extendió la imprenta son que el sector estaba dominado por religiosos, que elegían qué obras publicar y editar y cuáles no, además de que en algunos países no se disponían de los materiales necesarios para que la imprenta fuese un negocio continuado.
