Abstract

El presente trabajo es una continuación del que se publicó en la anterior edición de la revista Escurialensia[1], en el que abordamos la primera variante sobre la iconografía de la Natividad, el que hace alusión al nacimiento de Jesús con un parto natural, es decir, con dolor, fórmula que se interpretó desde el siglo IV hasta el XV. Tras estudiar las fuentes narrativas del ciclo del cristianismo continuamos analizando la otra variante iconográfica, como es el parto sin dolor, desde el momento en el que se lanzan nuevas consideraciones en el Concilio de Trento, (1545 y 1563) donde los Padres de la Iglesia defenderán las Revelaciones de Santa Brígida de Suecia y del Pseudo Buenaventura, que cambiarán los cánones iconográficos de las representaciones de la Natividad, pasando a considerarse que no se trata de un parto, sino de un alumbramiento.
