Abstract

AbstractIn this paper I argue against a recent interpretation of AP 9.161 (Marcus Argentarius) that reads in the epigram a play with the canonical order of Hesiod’s poems. Instead of connecting this epigram with Hesiod’s Catalogue, I posit an allusion to the series of maxims in Hesiod’s Op. 299-382.
