
Så gott som all samtida etnicitetsforskning utgår från att etnicitet, likt andra identitetskategorier, är socialt skapad. I denna studie visar jag hur ungdomar i en högstadieskola i utkanten av Stockholm använder den lokalt skapade benämningen import för att humoristiskt benämna människor som har migrerat. Trots att import till viss del syftar på en nylig territoriell förflyttning handlar benämningen framförallt om stil och beteenden. Det är en kategori som är öppen, flytande, rörlig och till viss del inkluderande då ungdomar på ett lekfullt sätt kan ta sig ut och in ur kategorin. Studien bygger på ett årslångt fältarbete i två åttondeklasser där samtliga ungdomar inom sina familjer har erfarenhet av migration.
