An archaeologically monitored topsoil strip was conducted for a development at Fordel Mains Cottages, Dalkeith, Midlothian. The remains of upstanding sandstone and limestone walls of the field were recorded that are depicted on the 1854 Ordnance Survey map. Evidence of an earlier field system, in the form of two ditches, a bank four furrows were also recorded. A small patched of cobbled surface of unknown function was also identified in the south corner of the site.
