Account of investigations into the presence of an old disused road ascending the fell-side between Thornthwaite, near Keswick, and Knott Head to the south. A description is given of the remains of the road, its context and its probable route, and it is conjectured that it fell into disuse in the early-nineteenth century. The author discusses the suggestion that a Roman road existed running from Keswick to Papcastle over the Whinlatter Pass, and the possibility that the disused road may provide evidence of this.
