This presentation was given at the Data Skills Training Workshop for Zimbabwean Academic Librarians hosted by the Gwanda State University Library—courtesy of the International Association for Social Science Information Services and Technology (IASSIST)—from 19 to 20 July 2023 at the Gwanda State University Epoch Mine Campus. Background to the Workshop Despite the fact that librarians are generally thought of as a potential source for helping researchers with Research Data Management (RDM), this potential has not yet been fully realized among the librarian community in Zimbabwe because they lack the specialized knowledge and skills to create a successful RDM curriculum for their research community. As a result, Zimbabwe lacks a university library that can provide reliable and high-quality RDM services. Given this background, the event aims to bring together academic librarians from Zimbabwean universities who are tasked with research data management responsibilities for the purpose of receiving training in RDM. The event strengthens RDM services at university libraries in Zimbabwe, thus advancing the IASSIST goal of fostering and supporting a network of excellence for data service delivery. The creation of a data interest group linked with IASSIST within the Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium is one of the events intended outcomes. In this way, the event will create opportunities for the sharing of sound professional practices in research data management among colleagues in Zimbabwean academic libraries. This two-day event is targeting all academic librarians in Zimbabwe who are interested in learning more about how to manage research data and establishing research data management services.
