Abstract

Family Ocypodidae Rafinesque, 1815 Ocypode quadrata (Fabricius, 1787) Diagnosis: Melo, 1996:484. Previous records: Pocock, 1890:512 [as Ocypoda arenaria (Catesby, 1771)]; Moreira, 1901:52 [as Ocypoda arenaria (Catesby, 1771)]; Coelho and Ramos, 1972:198; Fausto Filho, 1974:16; Williams, 1984:468; Abele and Kim, 1986:66; Melo, 1996: 484, 1998:504; Coelho et al., 2002:446. Examined material: JUN/92: Baía do Sueste, 2 males, 1 female. AUG/92: Praia da Conceição, 5 specimens. SEP/92: Baía do Sueste, 9 specimens. JAN/2000: Baía do Sueste, 1 male. Habitat: In galleries excavated in the sand. Observations: observed preferentially at dawn, dusk and during the night; the larger specimen had been collected in the Baía do Sueste.
