Paguristes tortugae Schmitt 1933

Abstract

Paguristes tortugae Schmitt, 1933 (Fig. 4H) Paguristes tortugae Schmitt, 1933: 7, figs. 4. Material examined. Brazil, São Paulo: 1 ♀, CCDB 5486, Ubatuba, Praia do Itaguá, colls. T. Magalhães et al., 30.xi.2014; 3 ♂, CCDB 530, Ubatuba, Ilha Anchieta, Praia do Leste, 23°33ʹS, 045°05ʹW, colls. R. Biagi & A. Meireles, 01.xi.2001; 5 ♂, CCDB 308, Ubatuba, Ilha Anchieta, Praia do Leste, 23°33ʹ45ʺS, 045°05ʹ45ʺW, colls. F. Mantelatto et al., 20.xi.2002; 1 ♂, CCDB 5067, Ubatuba, Ilha Vitória, colls. F. Mantelatto et al., 20.x.2012; 6 ♂, 5 ♀ (2 ♀ ov), CCDB 5068, Ubatuba, Ilha Vitória, colls. F. Mantelatto et al., 20.x.2012; 2 ♂, 1 ♀ ov, CCDB 412, São Sebastião, 23°45ʹ16ʺS, 045°24ʹ17ʺW, colls. R. Biagi & A. Meireles, 01.ii.2001; 2 ♂, 3 ♀, CCDB 6316, Santos, Laje de Santos, 24°15ʹS, 046°10ʹW, colls. A. Castilho et al., 28.ix.2016. Distribution. Western Atlantic— USA (North Carolina to Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, Brazil (Fernando de Noronha, Pará, Ceará, Pernambuco, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina) (Provenzano 1959; Williams 1984; Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1987; Rieger & Giraldi 1997; Mantelatto & Souza-Carey 1998; Rieger 1998; Melo 1999; Strasser & Price 1999; Coelho et al. 2007; Alves et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009; Fransozo et al. 2011). Remarks. Paguristes tortugae is a species complex (McLaughlin & Provenzano, 1974). Preliminary molecular analysis carried out by one of us (FLM) revealed some inconsistencies in the phylogenetic position of the Brazilian individuals when compared with some western congeners, suggesting that further study of the genus is required. Sequences accession numbers (GenBank): CCDB 1251—16S (DQ369933) (Mantelatto et al. 2006), CCDB 1141— COI (MT785554).
