Remarks. Paguristes tortugae is a species complex (McLaughlin & Provenzano, 1974). Preliminary molecular analysis carried out by one of us (FLM) revealed some inconsistencies in the phylogenetic position of the Brazilian individuals when compared with some western congeners, suggesting that further study of the genus is required.
