Scylla serrata (Forskål, 1775) Cancer serratus Forskål, 1775: 90. Material examined. None. Distribution. Western Atlantic—Colombia and Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo). Western Pacific—Moçambique and South Africa. Indo-West Pacific—Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, and Australia (Barnard 1950; Hutchings & Recher 1981; Melo 1983, 1996; Keenan et al. 1998; Tavares & Mendonça Jr. 2011; Lemaitre et al. 2013). Remarks. A single female specimen was collected in Peruíbe, São Paulo (MZUSP 5310) and it was considered as the first record in the Southwestern Atlantic (Melo 1983; Tavares & Mendonça Jr. 2004; Tavares 2011). A large female (MZUSP 24232) was reported for the second time in Marambaia Island, Sepetiba Bay, Rio de Janeiro (Tavares & Mendonça Jr. 2011). The species, however, does not seem to be established in the Western Atlantic yet (Tavares & Mendonça Jr. 2011). These previous samples may probably be accidental occurrences, or unsuccessful introductions by ballast water (Tavares & Mendonça Jr. 2004). No other individuals have been registered to date.
