Lycopodium phlegmaria Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1101. 1753. "Habitat in Malabaria, Zeylona." RCN: 7962. Type not designated. Original material: Herb. Hermann 4: 5, No. 386 (BM); [icon] in Breyn, Exot. Pl. Cent.: 180, t. 92. 1678; [icon] in Dillenius, Hist. Musc.: 450, t. 61, f. 5. 1741; [icon] in Rheede, Hort. Malab. 12: 27, t. 14. 1693. Current name: Huperzia phlegmaria (L.) Rothm. (Lycopodiaceae). Note: Roux (Consp. S. African Pteridophyta: 19. 2001) stated that Dillenius’ t. 61, f. 5A, B, C (1741) "is eligible as lectotype ", following Øllgaard (in Biol. Skr. 34: 61. 1989) but this is not a formal typification. Verdcourt (in Beentje & Ghazanfar, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Lycopodiaceae: 9. 2005) indicated the same illustration as the lectotype but this was published after 1 Jan 2001 and so the omission of the phrase "designated here" or an equivalent (Art. 7.11) means that the choice is not effective.
