Blechnum occidentale Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1077. 1753. "Habitat in America meridionali." RCN: 7815. Lectotype (Proctor in Howard, Fl. Lesser Antilles 2: 156. 1977): Herb. Linn. No. 1247.1 (LINN), see above, right. Generitype of Blechnum Linnaeus (vide Smith, Hist. File. 300. 1875). Current name: Blechnum occidentale L. (Blechnaceae). Note: Linnaeus evidently transposed the epithets “occidentale” and “orientale” in describing his two species of Blechnum in 1753.
