Ruppia maritima Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 127. 1753. "Habitat in Europae maritimis." RCN: 1046. Lectotype (Setchell in Proc. Calif. Acad. Sci., ser 4, 25: 470. 1946): [icon] "Buccaferrea maritima, foliis minus acutis" in Micheli, Nov. Pl. Gen.: 72, t. 35. 1729. Generitype of Ruppia Linnaeus. Current name: Ruppia maritima L. (Ruppiaceae). Note: Setchell illustrates (pl. 47, 48) two sheets in LINN, one of which (sheet 176.1) has been accepted as the type by some later authors (e.g. Obermeyer in Leistner, Fl. Southern Africa 1: 71. 1966). However, Setchell’s choice has priority.
