Rauvolfia canescens Linnaeus, Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 1: 303. 1762. "Habitat in Jamaica." RCN: 1701. Type not designated. Original material: Browne, Herb. Linn. No. 293.4 (LINN). Current name: Rauvolfia tetraphylla L. (Apocynaceae). Note: Rendle (in Proc. Linn. Soc. London 149: 108. 1937) says the name is "founded on" Browne specimens in LINN, which he illustrates as his pl. 3 (= 293.4 LINN). However, "founded on" is not accepted as an equivalent of “type”.
